Shauna Leven, Chief Executive of Twins Trust, said: “We welcome the publication of the Women’s Health Strategy, including much-needed advances in bereavement care and access to IVF treatment.

“However, we’re disappointed that the report fails to directly address multiple birth pregnancies, which are high risk and can have poorer outcomes than singleton pregnancies. The healthcare system – including through educating the next generation of practitioners – must recognise this group as needing greater levels of support in accordance with the NICE guidelines. Setting up a Maternity Disparities Taskforce is a positive step, but it must specifically recognise the challenges faced by women pregnant with multiples”.

The strategy is a good starting point, but it’s vital that a suitable level of funding is allocated to ensure its success.
