Back in March 2020, Twins Trust wrote to every CEO of supermarkets and well-known high street pharmacies about restrictions of sales of formula milk and nappies due to Covid-19 which would affect our families.
We want to assure you that we are continuing to keep a close eye on the situation.
The letter said: “We understand that this is a difficult time. Controlling stock is a huge concern and we appreciate the work you are doing in your supermarket.
“However, may we make a plea with you to take into account the needs of parents who have twins, triplets or more when restricting any sales of nappies and formula milk.
“This is unfortunately already causing issues for many of our parents who are your customers and who will require more than usual because of having more than one baby at home.
“May we politely ask you to stop these restrictions or be mindful of families with more than one child.
“As a retailer would you consider accepting the Twins Trust membership card as proof that families have more than one baby/toddler, or accept the ‘red books’ as a form of proof of family size?
As one twin mum told us: “My twins are 4 months old and consuming 3.5 litres of formula a week between them. The supermarkets are limiting everyone to two tins.
“I can’t be the only parent of multiples in this position? Please help.”
The letter was sent on Wednesday March 18 and we received a number of responses. We will continue to monitor the situation.
In the meantime, if it helps to print out the letter on headed paper and take it to your supermarket, you can do so here.
We will update you with responses here.
