Twins Trust is working with Petals to offer specialist counselling support for bereaved parents and families in the UK who have experienced loss in a multiple pregnancy.
We understand that a multiple pregnancy can bring additional risks and that when a baby or babies die, grief can feel especially complex. This may include the heartbreak of losing one twin or more, while also navigating the needs, hopes or anxieties connected to a surviving baby.
Parents may be carrying many different emotions at once. Petals can offer a safe, compassionate space where every part of their experience is heard and held.
This support is for families who’ve lost a whole set of twins, triplets or more. It’s also for families who’ve lost one or more babies from a set of multiples.
Counselling can support parents and families affected by:
- Early miscarriage
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Recurrent miscarriage
- Second trimester miscarriage
- Termination of pregnancy for medical reasons
- Stillbirth
- Neonatal loss
- The loss of one twin or more in a multiple pregnancy
- High levels of anxiety in a subsequent pregnancy following a previous loss, often known as pregnancy after loss
This second phase has 16 counselling places. Every application will be assessed and reviewed for suitability.
You can apply for this support if:
- Your loss happened within the past year
- You live in the UK
- You’re seeking support after the loss of a whole set of multiples, or one or more babies from a set of multiples
To refer you to Petals, we need to ask for some initial details in the form below.
After you submit the form, Twins Trust staff will contact you to talk through the next steps. We’ll complete a needs assessment with you, followed by a triage assessment with one of Petals’ counselling managers.
If the referral is suitable, you’ll be able to access five sessions with a specially trained Petals counsellor. This tailored support can help parents process the emotional impact of pregnancy or baby loss, trauma, anxiety and the challenges that can follow.
We know how important this support is. If you’re not offered a place this time and we secure more funding, we’ll reopen the referral form.
