When James and his wife Catriona discovered their twin boys, Thomas and Thacker, had developed Twin-to-Twin-Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), Twins Trust Bereavement Service was there to support them when they received the worst news.

The couple from Hertford found out they were expecting twins during COVID. It was a difficult time, as James wasn’t often able to attend the hospital with Catriona due to restrictions. When Catriona went to the 20-week scan alone, she was told that the boys had sadly died.  It happened very quickly, and they had no warning.

Twins Trust Bereavement Service helped them to find a way forward. James said: “Twins Trust Bereavement Service helped connect them with a befriender who understood what we were going through. It made us feel less alone and we still keep in touch now”.

James will be taking on London-Brighton cycle ride in memory of his boys. The couple has already raised more than £10,000 for Twins Trust in the past four years. Catriona even completed a 20-mile walk  while she was heavily pregnant with their daughter Murphy in 2021.

James said: “We were lucky to have the time we did with our boys. Raising money in their memory means so much to us so others don’t have to go through what we have. We want to support those families who need somewhere to turn to when they have an experience like ours. And hopefully fund research to help ensure fewer people suffer the agony of losing their children like we did.”

For the past few years James has completed Ride London, a 100-mile cycle ride, raising money for Twins Trust in memory of Thomas and Thacker. As Ride London is taking a hiatus in 2025, he opted to take on London-Brighton instead. James’ two girls Murphy and Ruairí and Catriona will be there to cheer him on as he sets off with his friend Payam.
