30 June 2022

It was a day of remembrance for Sue and Ian Madel when they took part in the Walk 10K for TTTS 2022 in memory of their twin daughters, Kayleigh and Lucy.

The twins were diagnosed with Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) during Sue’s complex pregnancy. Kayleigh and Lucy were born at 26 weeks on 22nd June 2000 after they faced heart failure due to the TTTS diagnosis. Kayleigh tragically died 40 minutes after birth and Lucy died three days later on 25th June.

On the 22nd anniversary of Lucy’s death, Sue and Ian joined other families at Virginia Water in Surrey for the Walk 10K for TTTS. Others also be participated by completing their own virtual version of the walk.

Sue, who is also mum to grown-up sons Scott and Andrew, said: “It was a poignant day. We have done the TTTS walks since they started. We want to do our bit and I had been wanting to do something for a while.”

Sue and Ian completed the first TTTS walk virtually from their hometown in Seaford, East Sussex, to Newhaven, joined by their youngest son, Andrew. For the second walk, Sue and Ian’s route took them along the Eastbourne seafront.

Sue added: “We did speak about the girls when we walked before and remembered them. It felt good and it was nice to do something to raise money to help with research and get medical advances going.”
