Twin clinics provide specialist maternity care for women expecting twins, triplets or more.

As there are higher risks and complications associated with twin or triplet pregnancies it is important that you receive specialist maternity care. This includes more appointments and scans and increased contact with specialist healthcare professionals during your pregnancy. As you will be seen more frequently during pregnancy, your appointment schedule will be different to the schedule for singleton pregnancies.

Your appointments should take place at a specialist Twin/Triplet clinic where you should be seen by the same group of midwives, sonographers and obstetricians who all have a specialist interest in twin/triplet pregnancies. This will mean you will get to know the healthcare team that are looking after you.

We follow the guidance as detailed in the final Ockenden report which stated that hospitals should ‘ensure antenatal care for all women pregnant with twins is provided by a core, multidisciplinary team of specialists within a dedicated multiple pregnancy clinic.’ This means ALL types of multiple pregnancies should receive this level of care.
