Just days after her twins were born, mum Eunice’s life took a huge turn for the worst.

When her twins, David and Faith, were just days old, she suffered a pulmonary embolism and a cardiac arrest and was cared for in a specialist hospital. During this time she died for nearly 10 minutes and was in a coma and on life support.

Dad Babs was unexpectedly on his own looking after their newborn babies and with the support of family and friends and neighbours who stepped in, the new parents made it through the early months.

When Babs had to return to work, Twins Trust supported the family when they needed an extra helping hand.

What should have been such a happy time for the family, who had been trying to conceive for more than 20 years, turned into a very worrying time.

Twins Trust arranged for an experienced volunteer to visit the family. We gave them a free membership, which meant that Babs could access vital resources and discounts to buy any necessary items.

When Eunice returned home, she was supported by carers but needed extra support to help with the twins as dad had returned to work.

“Gemma has been a real blessing to my family, she’s such a wonderful person. Often she will call when I am a bit depressed and trying to think through what I have been through and she would just call, like an angel and sparkle the day for me. I really appreciate it,” she said.

Rosie was extremely helpful and kind. Her support was very greatly appreciated. The babies really liked her - I wish she could have visited us more.

Twins Trust volunteer Rosie made monthly visits to the family over the next four months and helped looked after the babies. She was there to change nappies or help with feeding. Rosie was also able to support Eunice to help her care for the babies on her own.

Eunice added: “Rosie was extremely helpful and kind. Her support was very greatly appreciated. The babies really liked her - I wish she could have visited us more.

“We are so grateful to Twins Trust for being there for us at our time of need.”

This Giving Tuesday, you can donate to Twins Trust so we can support more families like Eunice and Babs.
