Student midwives from the University of Southampton put their best feet forward when they took part in our Walk for TTTS.
The students who are studying a BSc in midwifery and are members of their midwifery society (MidSoc). Midwifery students who train here complete clinical placements at the Princess Anne Hospital which is linked to the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust; leaders in teaching and research. The committee raise funds for good causes every year.

Society President and third year student Simone Dove is keen to specialise in multiple births and saw the walk advertised on our website.
I have always been interested in twins and passionate about mums receiving the best birth experience possible. Research and understanding is the key to better births for pregnant women expecting twins
with Vice President Jana adding “which is why raising money for research into TTTS and other areas related to multiple births is hugely important.”
But Simone had to put their fundraising task to the vote.
Fortunately, Twins Trust was chosen and the student midwives have all been given the Sunday off placement to take part. “It wasn’t a difficult decision”, says Welfare Rep Jenni, “multiple birth rates have risen in years and further research, particularly surrounding the complexities of monochorionic pregnancies is definitely needed. Daisy agrees adding: “I was looking for a 10K to do this year so when this fundraiser was mentioned it felt perfect.”
“We’re very grateful to our rostering midwife Jen who has made sure we are not on the rota for that day and I expect we will walk the 10k as everyone has different fitness levels” says Social Secretary Sam Perry.
Sarah and Priscilla have been on the hunt for a scenic location with Bournemouth Bay looking promising for their walk.
Second year student Anna is hoping that everyone gets involved. “It’s not just about committee members taking part, it would be great to have lots of our midwifery students joining us to collectively raise money and awareness for this cause, so we hope to see them there.”
Simone will be walking with Jana van Gent (Vice President); Jenni Thompson (Welfare Rep); Daisy Owens (Welfare Rep); Anna Constable (Treasurer); Sarah Barker (Events and Fundraising Coordinator); Priscilla Yankey (Merchandise Rep) and Sam Perry (Social Secretary).
