This study has explored the experiences of parents of multiples as they navigate public spaces. We know that parents of twins, triplets and more can face unique challenges with getting out and about.
To carry out the study, the researcher accompanied parents on a typical journey to understand the things they encounter during their journey, or used photos of their everyday activities in public spaces as prompts for a conversation. These interviews have provided valuable insight into the challenges parents face when going out and about with their children, and how these can be improved. This may help us to advocate in the future to make public spaces more accessible to parents of multiples.
The study identified five themes: physical barriers, safety concerns, routines, strangers, and staying on track. These are explored further in the graphic below:
