This study aims to explore the experiences of parents of multiples as they navigate public spaces. We know that parents of twins, triplets and more can face unique challenges with getting out and about. This study will involve interviews with ten parents.

Parents will either take part in a go-along interview where the researcher accompanies them on a typical journey to understand the things they encounter during their journey, or take photos of their everyday activities in public spaces and use these as prompts for a conversation with the researcher. These interviews will help the researcher to understand the challenges parents face when going out and about with their children, and how these can be improved. This may help us to advocate in the future to make public spaces more accessible to parents of multiples.

This study is being led by Dr Catherine Wilkinson at Liverpool John Moores University, who is also a twin and parent of twins. She is working alongside Dr Sergio Silverio, a chartered psychologist and social scientist with expertise in women’s mental health, civil engineer Sian Dunne and Dr Harriot Beazley, a human geographer and twin mum based in Australia.
